No matter how many superstar programmers you have on your team, defects are a fact of life in the software world. But, that doesn't mean you can't control and manage those issues effectively. Over 100,000 developers around the world trust OnTime to help them collaborate, receive notifications, generate reports and eliminate bugs. Here's why we think you should give it a (free) try:
|
Hierarchical Project Tree
No application can properly help you manage the development cycle if it doesn’t get used. That’s why we’ve spent so much time on OnTime’s interface. It manages projects the way managers, programmers, testers, and support staff intuitively understand.
- Project hierarchies are intuitive and immediately grasped by new users
- Quickly locate and view projects and their associated defects, features, tasks, incidents, attachments, etc.
- Granular security levels restrict who can see what
- Create, save, and share custom views

“Once we had introduced OnTime it allowed us to quickly monitor which bugs were left in the system, track them and get them fixed with the minimum of hassle.”
- Alex Othold, Adido Systems (UK)

Track Item Types Together or Separately
OnTime is flexible enough to adapt to your organization's philosophy about how to track items (like defects, requirements, and incidents).
- Defects, features, incidents, and tasks can be tracked in the same list or are easily tracked isolated from each other
- Each item type can be assigned a unique workflow within a project
- Create different custom fields for each item type, so you can track any data that's relevant to the project at hand
- Customize the wording used for each type, allowing OnTime to match your organization’s terminology...you can change "Bugs" to "Issues" or "Enhancements" to "Requirements," for example
|
“Ease of use... information we need is in a single system (issue tracking, release management, work log tracking for project management...)”
- Gino Blommaert, Vibro-Meter SA (Switzerland)
Totally Configurable
To make things easy, OnTime ships with a number of default fields for collecting the data you need...but it's also designed to provide you with the enjoyment of working in an environment that simulates your organization.
- Create or modify an unlimited number of fields:
- Single-select & multi-select pick-lists
- 2 or more dependent pick-list fields
- Short text, long text & HTML fields
- Numbers including decimals, money and integer fields
- Date & time fields
- Association with one or more projects, secured by role and can be used within customized workflow(s)
- Display only the fields that are relevant to a given item-type with a project. For example: "Minimum # of steps to Reproduce" might be a field you display for tracking a project's defects, but you wouldn't necessarily want to include that field for tracking requirements

“The views are very good. It's fast, can handle different configurations very well and I can't think of any data we need about our bugsdefects that isn't possible to get out of OnTime.”
- Andreas Skagestad, Adrega AS (Norway)

Visibility & Dashboards
Program managers and lead developers have to stay on top of overall development progress, if a project is going to hit or beat its projected completion date.
Your OnTime Project Dashboard will provide real-time answers to the questions that are important to you.
- What is my projected ship date?
- Who's working on what?
- How is the workload spread across my team?
- How many defects are being found every day, versus the number we are resolving?
- How many man-hours remain on a given defect? Feature? Release?

“I love the user dashboard... I can use those dashboards to see what is on everyones plate at a glance.”
- Aaron Smith, R.C. Systems Inc. (USA)
Workflow & Process Enforcement
When your organization adopts OnTime, you don’t have to adopt new development practices. Instead, OnTime conforms to your workflow, providing instant synergy. Defining and enforcing your workflow, no matter how simple or complex, is an instrumental factor in shipping software on time.
- Adapts to any workflow: Agile, Scrum, Extreme, MSF, 4D, ad hoc / custom, etc.
- Enforces workflow
- Integrates with role-based security, allowing only certain users to move items from one workflow step to the next, triggering pre-defined resulting actions
- Each project can have a unique workflow; child projects inherit the workflow of the parent project, by default
- Each item type (i.e. defects, requirements, tasks, and incidents) can have a unique workflow
- Email notifications can be set to automatically alert the appropriate team member(s) with each advance in the workflow process

SCM Integration & TortoiseSVN
OnTime integrates your existing source-code control system into the OnTime interface. There’s nothing new to learn, but now the information you’re already tracking becomes more useful.
- Associate defects and features with specific versions
- Perform SCM actions such as check-out, check-in and histories
- Currently supporting: Perforce SCMTM, SourceGear VaultTM, Visual SourceSafe, and SubversionTM
True integration between your Tortoise Subversion code repository and OnTime is now a reality.
While you and your team are updating files and committing changes using TortoiseSVN, you'll be able to link those files to Defects, Features, or Tasks within OnTime right from the Tortoise interface without having to launch OnTime.
- Easy setup and installation
- Seamlessly resides in the TortoiseSVN interface
- Workflow integration

“One very amazing product! Not sure how we managed without it!”
- Geoffrey Lewis, SYKES (USA)
Notifications & Alerts
To ensure the right people are being notified when certain events occur, OnTime automates this process. Customers can also receive automated emails to keep them in the loop (as determined by you).
Additionally, OnTime users can subscribe to email notifications at the item level or at the project level, providing them with immediate notification when items of interest change.
Email notifications are triggered by the following actions:
- An item is created, edited, or deleted
- The workflow changes to a new state
- A new email conversation is being tracked
- An attachment is uploaded to an item
Email alerts are triggered by an item meeting certain criteria in a user-generated alert filter. For example, alerts can be sent based on:
- An amount of time lapsing without a defect being resolved
- Specific properties of an item changing (or not changing)

OnTime stores these file right inside the OnTime database, so any user can access attachments from any client interface- even over the Internet.
The VS.NET & iPhone clients have the ability to "Paste" a screenshot from the clipboard. Image editing, such as cropping and highlighting screenshots, can also be performed directly within the OnTime Web & Windows clients.
